Greetings,
I recently acquired this piece at an estate auction. I don't know anything about art. I haven't been able to find out who the portrait is of, nor who painted it. I was hoping that perhaps someone would recognize either the person in the painting, the painter, or something about it. I've taken it to a few local "experts" only to further disappointment. Someone told me it looked like a George Romney. I Googled the name and looked at a few other pieces. I don't think it looks anything like what I saw. Someone else told me it looked like a portrait of a young John Hart. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independance from New Jersey. I kind of saw some resemblances, but once again I'm not terribly convinced. So far I'm only convinced that Historians and Appraisers often don't know which end is up. I'm now placing my confidence in collectors, so please don't let me down. If you can share any information it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't decided what I'm gonna do with the painting. Feel free to email me via contact info below.
Thanks.
