"Water"...in Different Languages

French - "eau"
Italian - "acqua"
Spanish - "agua"
Portugese - "a'gua"
Dutch - "water"
German - "wasser"
Latin - "aqua"
Chinese - "shuy"

Ainu - the language of a small distinctive minority in norhternmost Japan has 160 words to describe "water".


Water Characteristics

* The solid form (ice) floats in the liquid form. Most other substances are the opposite.

* Holds more heat than most substances.

* Surface tension so strong that it allows gravity-defying capillary action, enabling water to flow to the tops of the tallest trees.

* Can dissolve and carry most anything.


Water Everywhere

- H2O
- Components, hydrogen and oxygen, are first and third most abundant substances in known universe.
- 70% of Earth surface composed of it.
- 70% of human body composed of it.
- 30% of bones composed of it.
- Most ubiquitous substance on Earth.
- All life, as we know it, based on it.
