Beating a little bit more out of this topic,
I can't help feeling that the whole practice of making editions is sort of a bunch of crap. A copy is a copy, right?
Why should a signature make such a big difference on a copy? Celebrities sign mass produced photos all the time. If you are a celebrity, then I guess it makes SOME difference. But who really values a non-celebrity's signature NOW?
And who really cares about a little bit of gold writing or special swirly-poo dots and thingies ON A COPY? Does a buyer really understand the difference without the hype by the selling agency? The hype itself costs more money than the quality being hyped. Seems like if you want these little personal touches to pay off, then you've got to pay somebody to hype the fact that they make a difference, ... and then you, the artist, really don't get paid all that much from it,... but the hypers get paid.
Typical! Everybody but the artist gets any real pay. It's as though artists are these convenient excuses people make to get paid, or these patsies that will pay for the fantasy of being significant, and then don't get paid themselves.
I said it before, and I'll say it again:
FALSE ECONOMY OF THE ARTS
?...!
