Digital camera files can be copied directly to another source,... right?
Then how could you ever prove that YOU are the photographer of a digital image?
Some person at the photo lab decides to claim your digital file for his own, spends lots of bucks to prove it's his, beats you out simply because he has more resources to make the noise of ownership, when the image ACTUALLY is yours, but you just don't have the time, energy, resources to fight it.
On the other hand, if you shoot film, you have the hardcopy of the image in a technological format that's harder to thieve the identity of,... right?
