I used to post here regularly and, although I do more abstract work, I fell in love with a piece by a photo realist artist. He did very tight still lifes which were technically perfect but one piece he did was of a watering can and Mickey mouse, IIRC, that was just what spoke to me of what you could use that kind of detail and skill for and make something worth a second look. Anyone happen to remember him?
