Most creative people (at least in the US) know that you don't go into art to make the big bucks.
I'd rather not go into why this is. Maybe some other time. Its' common knowledge, though.
Right, then ... given that we live in a capitalist society, how do you manage to get along as an artist (with or without a degree in Fine Arts or Art Education)?
