My name is Matthew Varpness and I am an unpublished author seeking an artist for a mutual exchange of creativity. While no money would be involved at this point, it is possible that future publishing of my work could lead to reproduction benefits for the artist.
I have learned that many artists seek inspiration for their work, and I believe some of my writing could be a great source of this inspiration. Often times I find myself wanted to see a sketch drawing of various characters or settings from my stories, but I am not trained or skilled in this area. Therefore, if I were to provide vivid descriptions of settings and characters for an artist to draw, he or she would, in turn, provide me with visual inspiration to better my stories.
In addition, the artist's work would be featured on my homepage, http://varpness.com, where visitors would be inspired to read my works and find out more about the featured artist. Of course, as is the tradition of the art world, the original artist would retain the reproduction rights to their artwork; though characters, concepts, and all written work, both inspired or uninspired by the artwork, would remain my own.
The artist should be skilled in creating pastoral settings and human faces and figures. I am interested in sketch artists, painters, or any artist that can create a visual representation of a written description. Many of the scenes from my stories include shadowy figures or dark landscapes. While I would prefer the artist to have experience in darker imagery, this is not a requirement, and there would be no request for gory or grotesque scenes.
