I went to a fine art auction and purchased a Louis Icart drypoint etching called "Basket of Apples". I expected to see a number in the lower left corner but instead it is signed in pencil "Épreuves d'Artiste" The lower right corner has the artist's signature and in the upper left corner it is written "Copyright 1924 by Les Graveurs Modernes 194 Rue de Rivoli, Paris" (the copyright notice looks like it was etched onto the plate the same time the print was done). The etching is framed under glass and matted so I'm not sure much the sheet is trimmed or if there are any watermarks, etc. There is paper stapled across the back of the frame and it looks like it was done quite a few years ago. Is it worth my time to have the etching removed so it could be examined further? I don't think Icart etchings are super valuable and it sure looks lovely hanging in my dining room but maybe I stumbled onto a lucky find.
