To those who can think for themselves it's pretty obvious that Bacon's a Surrealist of sorts. I guess, one might call him a second generation Surrealist and his work Neo-Surrealitic. It's also obvious, at least to me that he was most influenced by the Surrealist painter Yves Tanguy. So, why a not so good Surrealist? Because the thought and ideas worked with by Bacon have little to do with Freud, the subconscious and a dream world. I know his work to be based upon optical "gimmicks"! You know, like camera shake and photographs of a subject in movement causing a blurred image. His later paintings are little more then a ramp through a carnival fun house of glass and distorted mirrors. By the way, these same optical effects can be accomplished with programs found in most home computers these days! I just don't buy it, that is gimmicks being a part of good art, the use of gimmicks in art make for "Kitsch" and little more. Though, Kitsch can be of interest, if recognized for what it is and used as such! Two words from me for Bacon fans and critics haranguing Bacon narcisistic nonsense, "get real"! Sincerely, the artist Geo, Horace Glenn Lee
