I pretty much agree with hjb.

Also,... greatness is partly contextual and political.

Lots of great ideas, for example, are considered screwy by orthodox standards.

Sometimes the infrastructure that determines funding has much to do with what officially gets tagged as "great".

Real talent is the ability to SELL your crap, no matter how bad it sucks.
