Hi, Drew: Adequite rendering skills and techniques are easy enough and within everyones reach prividing they'er not severely impaired in some way. But, by definition "Great Art" is something else, something quite extrodenary; 'YES' an individual need be specially 'Gifted' in some way or in some manner of speaking in order to produce great art. Greatness in art has little to do with art skills and techniques but has a great deal to do with individual understanding and vision. And, 'YES' it needs to be searched for and worked on, no one realy understands from where or exactly what gifts they have been born with, genetic in part but what more and in what way these gifts maybe most usefull to them, producing fine art or for entirely something else. Sincerely, the artist Geo.
