The Art Kudos competition is an annual international juried competition that serves to recognize and honor excellence in the visual arts. Artists who are selected as finalists benefit from world-wide exposure in an online-only exhibition (www.artkudos.com) and have the opportunity to win cash awards for their exemplary work. A total of $3,400 will be awarded in the 2008 competition.
Deadline: All entries must be postmarked on or before June 30, 2008.
Eligibility: The competition is open to all artists 18 or older. Publishers, galleries, agents, and collectors may not submit artwork on behalf of artists. Eligible media include: acrylics, oils, watercolors, pastels, drawings, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, and mixed media. Media not accepted: video/film, installations, wearable art (clothing or jewelry). All works submitted must be original in design and concept, and may not be done under supervision. Entries previously submitted for the Art Kudos competition are ineligible. Please do not submit images which would be inappropriate for general audiences.
Entry Requirements: Artists must submit a completed entry form, images of up to 3 works, and entry fee of $30 US dollars. Entries received without payment of the $30 entry fee will not be reviewed. Acceptable forms of payment include check, money order, PayPal or Google Checkout.
Juror of Awards: A recipient of the prestigious Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship, PANG-CHIEH HSU received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from the School of Visual Arts, New York. He currently teaches at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Hooks-Epstein Galleries, Houston, and a group exhibition Within State Lines at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia.
Awards: Exemplary works will be displayed in an online exhibition beginning August 15, 2008. Cash awards totaling $3,400 will be distributed as follows: Best of Show - $1,200; Second Place - $800; Third Place - $500; Award of Distinction - $300; (3) Merit Awards - $200 each.
Sales/Commissions: No commissions are taken for sales generated via the exhibition, and works submitted do not have to be available for sale. Sales will be encouraged, however, and artists will have the option to display their contact information beside their images.
Submission Guidelines: Artists may submit up to 3 works of art. For sculptural or three-dimensional pieces, 2 images may be submitted for each work. Artists may submit 35mm slides, photos, or digital files (preferred). Please do not send originals. For the best chance of being accepted, artists are encouraged to submit high-quality images that are well-photographed with evenly distributed lighting and accurate color. Images will be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is provided.
35mm slides (2" x 2"): Slides should be clearly labeled with artist's name, title of work and an indication for top of the work. No glass slides please. For greater chance of selection, please be sure that the slides are of professional quality, without dust or scratches.
Photos (8" x 10" maximum): Please label the back of each photo with the title of the artwork and your name, being careful not to damage the photo. We recommend using a stick-on label or felt-tip pen.
Digital files: We prefer horizontal images to have a width of no less than 800 pixels, and vertical images to have a height of no less than 625 pixels. Otherwise, the images will be too small to provide enough detail for the juror. Save the images with as little compression as possible while maintaining a file size less than 2 MB. We will resize the images for display on the Internet. Images must be PC compatible and saved in the JPEG or TIFF file format (with a .jpg or .tif extension). File names should not have spaces, punctuation marks, or non-English characters.
We reserve the right to use submitted images for inclusion in the exhibition and for the purpose of publicity.
Acceptance/Notification: Artists will be notified by August 1, 2008 as to whether or not they have been selected as a finalist. Art Kudos is solely an online exhibition (www.artkudos.com). Therefore, you will not be asked to ship accepted works. Award winners will be announced with the opening of the exhibition on August 15th.
