Aspect 185
WHAT IT IS: You are looking at a computer monitor image... of a computer .jpeg file... of a scan... of a 35mm film transparency... of a transient, short-lived painting substrate event.
An actual three-dimensional (four, if you count time, which I do)- physical-substance painting once existed for a brief time. It dissolved, dispersed, evaporated or otherwise degraded via natural dissipative forces operating in the fully fluid state of matter.
Elements of construction included: Water, vegetable oil, art-grade acrylics or oil paints, concave container, found support platform and stabilizing accessories, sunlight, camera, tripod, spontaneous staging of fluid/pigment layers, experimental manipulation, focused observation, intuitive angling and framing of field of view to capture optimal impression.
Now YOUR impressions:
Do you like what you see? Is it art? Is it/was it painting? Liquid sculpture? Just photography? Paint/photography or paint/sculpture/photography hybrid? Mixed media? How would YOU classify it?
