If I am compelled to look at a piece it's good to me. Maybe I can't tell why I look at it at first, but something moves me.

It isn't always the newest freshest thing either! It can be an ancient alterpiece or 1950's advertising art, but something makes me want to look harder, figure out why I want to see more.

It's hard these days because of the dizzying barrage of images that assault us every waking moment, for one of them to make us stop and notice it means that something worked. If that something was intentional by the Artist, then I think it's good.

But that doesn't mean everything else is not good and I don't think you can derive any universals from it because it is so personal. If you think about it Art is really an intimate form of communication between one person and one other person (or many others, but one at a time). So what is GOOD Art is based on the unique individual seeing, or based on the consensus of many people seeing.

Since there is little agreement about what is good Art we are left to consider what we each like or what is fashionable at any given time.
