Anyone here ever enter art competitions? Just wondering. It's not a topic I ever see here at dART. I like entering a picture now and then, and even though I rarely win anything I think getting the exposure is well worth the entry fee. I belong to a local art league and they have a national show, a local river festival show, and a members show. In the last ten years I haven't won anything. Funny thing is............the league president, vice president, or the league treasurer always win a ribbon, or the usual suspects always win. Odd and curious! I've always believed these shows are rigged. Not just saying this because I don't place, but because it's been this way since 1979 when I started. League president and vice president always place.
I always get OOO's and Ahhh's when I enter my work and I'm always told by the league administrator that my art was the shows' favorite but I never place. My brother said that I sound bitter. You bet your ass I am! I'm at the point where I don't expect to place anymore and I'm content to appreciate the exposure.
Maybe someday I can be one of the league's usual suspects and, with a conscience, I will feel guilty for winning a ribbon...jim
