I'm going to be the answer to your prayers of making a good career for yourself in the art world. I totally agree with Billy the Kid's reply. You need to learn how to become a salesman and show people art that they are going to like and to buy. The problem is that most people who buy art are motivated to buy a piece for completely different reasons than for the reason that you or other artists would have painted a piece. You have to sell commercial themes to people who have empty walls in their homes and offices. You need to have a zero-cost way of meeting these people. You then need to have the type of paintings that these people will most probably buy. And most important you need to be able to offer them a good price that will make them want to buy it as soon as they see it. I've already learned how to do all this because I was in the same position as you when I graduated from art college in 1990. Now that I've established myself as an artist/art broker, I'm searching the net for artists who want to create a career for themselves. I'm looking for artists and entrepreneurs throughout the world who want to represent my exclusive line of oil paintings. Each reprsentative will have their own territory in the place where they live(hopefully near a population base of at least 300K people), and I will teach each distributor all the marketing techniques that are needed to sell art in this day and age. The benefit to you is that you learn how to sell your own art as well. And, of course, you will earn a lot of money. It's so important for you to learn how to sell art if you want to survive as an artist, and create a future for yourself. I know so many great painters who are far more talented than people like Thomas Kinkade, Peter Max, Bev Dolittle, etc.., but live on welfare because they cannot sell themselves, and are too old and stubborn to learn. Please email me at tedheller@home.com and leave your name, phone # with area code, and I'll discuss this more with you.
