I'm guessing what I found at a used furniture store is a copy. I doubt there are many "undiscovered treasures" out there yet. And I don't usually luck out like that. Anyway, I didn't buy it, so I can't provide a photo of it. It appears to be a painting because it has some heavier texture to it that I doubt you'd find on a print, and there is a little paint loss (upper left in sky about 1/8" x 1" and a couple of other minor flecks here and there), but I don't know the first thing about paintings or art! All I can tell you is there is a gallery(?) label on the back of the frame. Does this label information mean anything? The label is maybe 1" x 3" and has a printed "EB" at the top (rather stylized, art-deco type letters - red and blue, I think. I'm assuming this is the gallery/store that originally sold it). Below that is "Number" with "V.M.N." typed after it (a typewriter was used). Below that is "Artist" with "R. Wood." typed in, and "Title" with "Coast of Monterey" typed in. But it doesn't quite look like the "Coast of Monterey" repro prints I've seen advertised on line. The colors on this one are very muted--almost sepia-toned (maybe just really dirty?). There isn't that brilliant blue in the ocean like I've seen in the print. And the composition might be a little different. I'm going by my memory of the picture in the store vs. what I've seen online just now. It is signed "Robert Wood" in the lower left corner. I like the picture and would consider buying it, but the paint(?) loss has me concerned. The price is $29.99. Even if it's a copy, is this a "good deal" with the minor paint loss? Any help is greatly appreciated.
