Volume 1, Issue 1, Book Cover Award - Elbow, Derek Henderson

Twelve-image portfolios by 15 photographers will be chosen to display their work in The Center for Fine Art Photography’s second online and print portfolio show.

Their work will be included in the Center’s second book publication of Artists’ ShowCase Portfolio. Additionally, their portfolios will be featured on the Center’s web site (www.c4fap.org) from February 1 – February 28, 2009 and will remain online for the next two years.

The Center is pleased to provide artists with an economical method to have their work reviewed by an international juror, published and exhibited without printing, framing or shipping costs.

Theme:  Open - There is no theme for this exhibition. Each photographer’s group of images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images.

          
The Center for Fine Art Photography invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in this exhibition. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements are welcome. The exhibition is open world wide to all professional and amateur photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both.

Juror:  Rixon Reed, Executive Director of Photo-Eye
Photo-Eye, founded in 1979 by Rixon, is recognized as one of the world’s most important resources for fine art photography. Photo-Eye is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico along with Photo-Eye Gallery. Rixon has a BS in Natural Science from the University of Arkansas and studied Filmmaking and Photography at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He also worked for the Witkin Gallery in New York during the 1970s.

Awards:
This exhibition provides opportunities for artists’ to have their portfolios published and exhibited, and to have their work seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and others who purchase fine art of photography.

  • Artists ShowCase Portfolio Award – The portfolios of fifteen selected artists will be compiled into the Center’s second book publication, Artists ShowCase Portfolio. In addition to their images, each artist’s portfolio section will include a picture of the artist, their artist’s statement and their contact information. Each artist will receive one complimentary book, with the option to purchase additional books. The book will include an introduction by the juror, Rixon Reed.

  • Juror’s Selection – Book Cover Award – Rixon will select one photographer’s portfolio to be the first presented in the publication Artists ShowCase Portfolio, with one of the artist’s images selected for the cover.

  • Solo Exhibition Award – A second photographer will be chosen for a solo show in the Center’s physical gallery in 2009  (Please note that the images for this award will be exhibited within 16x20 mats and put behind glass while on display)

  • The Photo-Eye Award –The Photographer’s Showcase at photoeye.com is an online exhibition and sales gallery for emerging artists. The curated work on the site attracts museum curators, gallery directors, book publishers, collectors, teachers and the general public and has helped launch successful careers including, in some cases, formal gallery representation. One artist will be awarded a one-year showcase with photo-eye.

  • Online Gallery - All fifteen selected portfolios will be featured in the Center's online gallery in February 2009, as well as for an additional two years in the Center’s Previous Exhibitions section.
