Chiaroscuro (the modeling of light and shadow) bear the illusion of three-dimensional form and space on the two-dimensional surface. In portraying many American cowboys, who are the embodiment of strength and tenacity, a sense of calm and quiet composure is often revealed. A spontaneous and subjective approach is important for expressing ones self visually and for rendering the perception of the western themes.
