Call to artists: 2009 Art Kudos Online Competition
The Art Kudos competition is an annual international juried competition that serves to recognize and honor excellence in the visual arts. Artists who are selected as finalists benefit from world-wide exposure in an online-only exhibition (www.artkudos.com) and have the opportunity to win cash awards for their exemplary work. A total of $3,750 will be awarded in the 2009 competition.
Deadline: All entries must be postmarked on or before June 30, 2009.
Eligibility: The competition is open to artists anywhere in the world. Artist must be 18 years of age or older. Publishers, galleries, agents, and collectors may not submit artwork on behalf of artists. Drawings, paintings, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, installations, ceramics, fiber art and mixed media are eligible. Media not accepted: video/film, wearable art (clothing or jewelry). All works submitted must be original in design and concept, and may not be done under supervision. Entries previously submitted for the Art Kudos competition are ineligible. Please do not submit images which would be inappropriate for general audiences.
Entry Requirements: Artists must submit a completed entry form, images of up to 3 works, and entry fee of $30 US dollars. Entries received without payment of the $30 entry fee will not be reviewed.
Juror of Awards: Scott Canty has been an Art Curator with the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department since 1986 and has curated/directed more than 170 exhibitions throughout his career. Currently, he is Senior Curator for exhibition programs at the Los Angeles and Ontario Airports, Curator at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park, and the City Hall Bridge Gallery as well as the Director for the Cultural Affairs Department Slide Registry, an important resource for California artists, curators, gallery owners, art consultants, developers, librarians, college and university professors, film studios and artists. In addition, Canty is Director of Exhibitions at the Palos Verdes Art Center in Rancho Palos Verdes, California where his duties include organizing all exhibition projects throughout the Art Center's galleries: Beckstrand, Collectors and the Norris Gallery. Canty received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University Long Beach in 1983, with an emphasis on drawing and painting. He received an Associate Arts degree from El Camino College in Advertising Design in 1980.
Awards: Exemplary works will be displayed in an online exhibition beginning August 15, 2009. Cash awards totaling $3,750 will be distributed as follows: Best of Show - $1,200; Second Place - $800; Third Place - $600; Founder's Award of Distinction - $400; (3) Merit Awards - $250 each.
Sales/Commissions: No commissions are taken for sales generated via the exhibition, and works submitted do not have to be available for sale. Sales will be encouraged, however, and artists will have the option to display their contact information beside their images.
Acceptance/Notification: Artists will be notified by August 1, 2009 as to whether or not they have been selected as a finalist. Art Kudos is solely an online exhibition. Therefore, you will not be asked to ship accepted works. Award winners will be announced with the opening of the exhibition on August 15th.
