What does a congregation do when its heart is larger than its outreach budget? That was the dilemma faced by the Outreach Committee of John Knox Presbyterian Church of Spring Branch. There was no overlooking the needs of the community, or the fact that in this down economy contributions to all nonprofit institutions are below expectations. The answer was unanimous – sponsor an Art and Craft Bazaar and commit the earnings to outreach giving.
John Knox Presbyterian Church, founded fifty years ago at 2525 North Gessner in the heart of Spring Branch, (Houaron) will host the first of what is expected to be an annual event on Saturday, September 12, 2009. There has been tremendous response from quality vendors who will display their wares in the Fellowship Hall and on the Church’s beautiful grounds. The event will also feature live music, food, activities for children, a silent auction and raffle prizes. Sharron Melton of ABC Channel 13 will be a special guest.
The beneficiaries of this event will be Memorial Assistant Ministries (MAM), Westside Homeless Partnership, Reach Unlimited Special Needs Living and the Church’s China Mission.
“The entire congregation extends an invitation to both vendors and guests”, says Nancy McElhinney, chairman of the Outreach Committee. “Everyone is energized by the shared vision of seeing the results of our efforts going to such worthy causes.”
