Here is a painting which has been passed down to me through the generations of my family. The painting is dated and signed on the bottom left corner(G. R. Barr 1882). Having searched a little on this painter I am guessing that it may be that it is infact the work of George Renwick Barr although im not entirely sure. I gather there exist only 8 paintings by this painter in circulation. I think there maybe some kind of connection between George Barrs paintings and Canada for some reason maybe someone will be able to elaborate on this connection. I have seen one other painting on the net by George Renwick Barr which is of a ship at sea with Ailsa Craig in the background, as I live only ten miles or so from the island of Ailsa Craig I guessing this may indeed be the same G.B. Barr. I also see that there is some mention of him being a painter of ships built by a Mr George Mackenzie. As I myself am a Mackenzie I would be interested in any information anyone has or even estimate of the value of this painting. Thank-you
