I recently purchased a framed oil on canvas painting at a flea market; i love it, but it is torn and would require significant investment to conserve. Cannot find any information to help me decide if this would be worth it.
Oil on canvas, very dirty and torn. Signed Alvarez in bottom corner.
Back reads : "Product of Reliable" Newark, New Jersey (Reliable is in script), below this it says 5-K-906 5LIN
Frame on the back right side says : "Made in Italy, hand carved, gold metal leaf"
The frame on the bottom has a name plate inscribed "ALVAREZ"
I have attached an image, and any help would be much appreciated. Have searched all available databases and cannot find any information.Searched the business bureau of NJ and internet, and it seems as if Reliable was an importer of Fine Arts around the 1950s, but no conclusive data. The artist did not sign his first name.
