Hello,I am sort of "new" to the art scene. I had some classes in college, and I never expanded from there. I have noticed though in a lot of movies and TV shows references to very good art that I am pretty sure is typed as Renaissance or Gothic. I was wondering if anyone could refer me to artists I may like... I know of some- and will help with the narrow style: some artists I like are Pietro Da Cortona (mainly the triumph if divine providence) Matthias Grunewald (mainly the temptation of St Anthony) Pieter Bruegel (the fall of the Rebel Angels and also Triumph of Black Death)
Pretty much anything depicting the clash of heaven and hell and the also symbolization of good/evil/temptation I also am looking for an in particular work that I can only describe... It was along the same style as for-mentioned and it depicts a dark figure flying through a town. It is spreading the black death. It is holding a scythe like item in its hand (figure is facing you and holding scythe in it's right hand (left side of painting visually)). it is supposedly one of the first depictions of "the grim reaper" but to me it looks nothing like him. It actually looks more like a woman to me, but demonic in nature- sort of like the chick in exorcist. I think it is riding a pale flying horse but i cannot remember it too well... Also another one I am trying to find is a widely seen painting of Noah's Ark... It surprises me that this painting is seen a lot because on closer examination of the piece you see bodies strewn about the bottom of the work (it is gray-scale I think).
