I happened across this website by
accident. Apparently it has received a lot of questions over years of
time concerning watercolors done by Paul N. Norton. My late father
was the print dealer who had many of Norton's works reprinted. I may
be able to shed light on some of the questions.
First, in the majority of the questions
I saw about pieces, the piece described is in fact a print. They were
done of Mystic Seaport and other sites for my father who sold them through local
attractions in New England in the 1960s and 70s. They are printed on
real water color paper from Strathmore and due to the printing
process employed there would be no visible dots.
The color separations for the printing
were done by Peerless Engravers in Little Rock AR, and the printing
was done by DeSaulners in Moline IL. Paul Norton was an executive
with DeSaulners, hence the tie-in.
The names used to identify the Mystic
Seaport sequence include Misty Morn, LA Dunton, Lamp Post, Sail Loft,
Charles W. Morgan, and Seaport Street. There are others, but those
were the best sellers and so the most commonly found today.
Our family is no longer in the print
business, but we do still have some of the original art works and
color separations. We have no clear idea of their worth and keep them as memorabilia.
