An Introduction
Excerpt from "Collected Tuesdays"

The day is Tuesday and, as is every Tuesday, he sits at the table threading her words with his own. He is a weaver. She becomes his cloth; a delicate cloth, stretched and appointed with the glittering noise of five silver bells.

Today is just another Tuesday.
She places a bowl of fruit between them, dividing the light that fades from center, out to the four far corners. Rolling the ripe, round fruit between her hands, she presses fingers into thick flesh and slowly peels the sunny-morning yellow back from the pith.

She watches him over her work. He watches her. He watches the deftness of fingers tugging as the bitter white is pulled away.

She smiles. "This is how I see you. You, with your thick skin, your bitter layers, easily undone. And inside, this is how I find you."

She takes the pink between her lips, pulls the flesh with her teeth until light, citrus tears circle fingers and slide down the backs of her hands. She separates the pulp; pushes the pits with her tongue until they fall to the small glass plate; until they scatter to the edge, shimmering opals in fading light.

He takes a small, shiny seed, rolls it like a thought between fingers and draws a slow deep breath.
"Now. Tell me a story."

"Yes. Today is Tuesday."
She smiles.
