I think there are many serious artists making beautiful art. The problem is that there are not enough serious collectors buying our art.
The solution might be an organization which existed solely as a marketing tool for artists. If each artist in the US contributed $10.00 (or more or less as they could afford it) to a fund, there would be quite a pool of money. This money could be used to hire an advertising agency to plan a marketing campaign to promote buying and living with original art. Just like the Milk Board or Cheese Board buys television spots and bill boards to promote their product, we could promote original artwork. We could demystify living with original art and create demand. As there is variety in art so there would be variety in new collectors. Everyone would benefit.
Any ideas about how to get the ball rolling? The problem is finding the right umbrella organization to take this project on. It would have to be an organization that people trusted with a capacity to do the work. The NEA comes to mind. Artists would contribute and when the pot of money reached a critical mass the marketing campaign would commence.
