I see so many responses for any posting mentioning NYC; it seems every artist wants to go there. I have been accepted at more than one NYC gallery to whom I submitted work. I declined because I was asked for a large sum of cash (over one thousand dollars) up front, plus a commission. Not many artists can afford that kind of money. You have to ask yourself where is the incentive for a gallery to sell your work, when they've already made their money? I've since run into other artists who were also "accepted" at the same galleries under the same mercinary terms. If KYSO Artworks is taking on new artists in NYC, that's wonderful, good luck to all of you hopeful artists. However, there are many people out there who are capitalizing on artists' desperation to get in on the NYC art scene, which is a tough nut to crack. If you want a New Yorker's view on the NYC art scene, which is a very tough nut to crack, check out a web-site I stumbled across "http://users.aol.com/slowart/artist.htm" and read "About the New York Art Scene" which proved invaluable to me. I don't want to discourage anyone, keep your optimism and success will follow. There are some good galleries out there who genuinely want to discover new talent, however, be careful of those who are out to take advantage of aspiring artists. You should not have to pay anyone anything until they have sold your work.

I wish you all much success in your artistic careers!
