Hoydigiteer.org will be curating an exhibition of Philippine works to be hosted by the fineArtforum.org’s online gallery section for May 2001. The exhibition is a collaboration between Philippine digital artists and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The project has a combo Philippine Mythology-Science Theme where digital artists engage the geological sciences to visualize the mythologies of the Middleworld.
The project, dubbed Geo|centr|e|i|city - The Earth as Center is also a serious look into the practice of curating and exhibiting on the WWW.
SIR-C imaging, multi-temporal ERS scenes, AIRSAR acquisitions, use of ENVI software are some of the topics of interest that may be taken up between the artists and PHIVOLCS. To be discussed also for purposes of completing the artworks for the exhibition are the mythologies on the constitution of the earthworld and the causes of earthquakes in Bukidnon, the Cordillera, Makiling, Banahaw, Zambales, Bontok, and Palawan, among others.
Participating artists are: Al Manrique, Archie Degamo, Heber Bartolome, Aileen Familara, Ferdinand Doctolero, Joey Ong, Fatima Lasay, Benjie Cabangis and John Flores.
The objectives of this project are multi-fold:
- To generate interest and dialogues in Philippine ancient folk religion and traditional culture;
- To generate interest and dialogues in seismology and volcanology thru art;
- To promote Philippine initiatives in art, culture and technology to an international audience; and
- To articulate links between the seemingly distant worlds of the arts, humanities, science and technology
