I am an art teacher in Buffalo. I have found that most students with talent are just the opposite as your daughter. She has the inate ability to record what she sees, which is very rare. She may, however lack the creativity needed to create works from imagination or to put a personal artistic styling in her work. What my colleagues have addressed is that ability to seperate herself from other artists and become individual in her work. Also, if your daughter's work is so exceptional, those that critique her may have failed to express the fact that this is what she should do with her life. If she loves to paint and draw and is passionate about it, that personal style will emerge by itself. Any teacher would make suggestions for the best of artists to improve. Perfection is never achieved in the arts...there is always further to go and that's what I think my colleagues were expressing. Any college that your daughter would attend will give her what she needs to be a successful artist: projects, deadlines and critiques...not to mention opportunities to display her work. She will find that the success comes from within and is totally non-dependant on the institutions from which she has sprung.
