I don't know if they still do it for free, but I got an appraisal on some antique silver from ePraisals.com - better check my spelling. But it is a sight based on the HGTV show featuring expert appraisers in all fields. I know that some are visual and historic art appraisers. My experience with them was good and they seemed very informative. I sold the silver on eBay based on their apppraisal and learned enough about it to give it an appropriate listing.
