I would have to say you're right in some aspects in that his images were somewhat rosy, but I think that was the intention. Back then, the media intended to deliver the news but not destroy people's hopes and views about the U.S. and the world. I think since his artwork was mainly for the newspapers, it is safe to say he was encouraged to find the positive parts of life and relay a message that was more uplifting than the truth. These days, it would be impossible. The brutal honesty that exists today was kept from the public...they were much more sheltered. The media served to protect the public from the impact of reality, these days, the media has become perverse and intrusive. Who knows...maybe the days of Rockwell never existed in reality, but I think many people appreciated his portrayals of American life.
