The suicide verdict is disputed by many.
I will state a few facts:
1. A few days after his death, someone was using Kurt Cobain's credit card -- it was stolen.
2. Kurt Cobain had an extremely high amount of heroin in his system -- in fact, the amount was more than three times the lethal dose even for a severe addict. Now consider this: the investigators claim that Kurt Cobain injected himself with this lethal dose of heroin (experts say that he would have been knocked out in a few seconds after injection), rolled down his sleeve, neatly returned the syringe and other paraphernalia into his "kit", picked up the shotgun, placed it in his mouth and pulled the trigger.
3. A musician by the name of Eldon Hoke claimed that Courtney Love (Cobain's wife) offered him $50,000 to kill Kurt Cobain. Hoke was administered a polygraph test by the two experts (they were once the FBI's leading polygraph experts), and in their judgement, the results revealed that there was a 99.91% that he was telling the truth. In their words, "beyond the possibility of deception".
Bizzarely, shortly after making his allegations, Hoke died under suspicious circumstances -- he was run over by a train. Witnesses claim he was befriended by a man in a bar, they left and no one saw him again.
4. The so-called "suicide note" never mentions suicide, or a desire to kill himself. The gist of the note talks essentially about his desire to leave the music industry, as well as his wife. At the bottom of the note, there are a few sentences which might indicate a desire to kill himself, but several experts have asserted that the handwriting is completely different than the rest of the note -- as if someone added those lines to create a certain impression.
5. Cobain was planning to divorce Courtney Love. If he did so, she would only be entitled to a limited amount of his assets. BUT, with him being dead, the full Cobain estate was left to her -- including all royalties from the sale of Nirvana albums, videos, rights, etc. A multi-million dollar estate.
I recommend reading the book "Who Killed Kurt Cobain?" by Ian Halperin and Max Wallace. The book also gives an interesting analysis of Courtney Love. Even her father believes that she was involved in his death.
Or, you can visit this site. The site gives details of private investigator Tom Grant's investigation into the death of Cobain. Grant was initially hired by Courtney Love to investigate the death, but after he began uncovering suspicious evidence, he began pursuing the case on his own.
