I am amazed that no one has posted a message on here concerning that wonderful man who has inspired millions of people to paint. I am one of those people. Now, I know it sounds cheesy, but before I had watched Bob on the TV, I had no idea how to paint, what medium to use, what brushes to use - I knew nothing. The only thing I did know was that it was something that I always wanted to do. And then I saw Bob and he inspired me to have a go. Since then, I have painted and painted and painted.
Now, some have said - "Oh Bob Ross, yeah, mountains, trees and waterfalls - well it's not real Art is it"? Isn't it? Call me naive, but I thought that 'Art' was about creativity and emotion. I can understand that people assume that anyone who paints like Bob Ross will copy what they see on TV, and therefore the creativity unique to an artist is compromised. But aren't people being a little shortsighted about the impact that Bob has on the art world in general? Isn't it entirely possible that those of us who paint happy little clouds and trees today, will develop a confidence on canvas to be able to paint their own subject matter tomorrow, which someone may purchase, hang on their wall and call Art?
Have upset the purists?
