The main disease they're focusing on now or were when I was in research was aids and cancer. Since they are genetic they are more difficult to cure. For example, When I was displaying a poster on some work I did with Nutrasweet, I checked out some of the other works by different people(kinda of like an art show but all science experiments). One scientist had a display showing the way aids works. The virus enters into your bodies t-cells(defense cells) connects onto the DNA and changes the code so that it produces other cells which attack the bodies defense cells. It's pretty complicated because the virus itself mutates so often they have a difficult time breaking the code of the virus only to have it change again. I took genetics which helps to understand what they are dealing with. Cancer is another disease that is difficult. I think if I were to get cancer I would decline the chemotherapy since radiation is known to mutate cells. Thats how it destroys the cancer, but it destroys other cells as well. Some people have a predisposition to cancer which I find strange. Well sorry to bore you and not to defend the pharmeceutical companies, they are not that honorable. But, if they were able to come up with a cure for aids or cancer you better believe they would market it because they would make a lot more than $8.00 a pill. They would make millions from those wealthy enough to afford it. Not so honorable I guess when you wonder about the people who can't afford it.
Sincerely
