my experience is that its only important to distinguish between high and low art for myself. art has a purpose and the real measure of its value, moral questions aside, is whether or not it fulfills its purpose, right? take comic books, for example: if a comic book illustrator uses their skills to effectively tell a story, regardless of their draftsmanship skills, etc, arent they a successful artist? i cant compare a comic book artist to da vinci nor can i find a reason to. proust said "aesthetics is the serpent that ends by eating its own tale." i reckon he was right.
