This position in San Francisco, CA requires exceptional visual and conceptual problem-solving skills, a high level of design sensibility, including the ability to produce and direct a variety of creative on-target solutions to any given problem from beginning to end. Must have mastery over information design, interaction design, and Web design mechanics, and an ability to enhance the user experience through design and layout. This position necessitates directing other designers, directing work flow, and helping support goals of the design department. Must be articulate and maintain a professional work ethic. A positive can-do attitude and ability to work within constraints of the CNET look and feel is essential. Must have ability to manage own projects, not be thrown off by challenging problems, determine design objectives, understand marketing strategies and concepts, and adapt to emerging technologies. Must work efficiently with tight deadlines including doing whatever is necessary to produce work on time.
The individual should be skilled at presenting work in an organized and articulate manner and have experience handling complicated meetings with other departments. A strong working knowledge of computer skills is necessary, including HTML, Debabelizer, BBEdit, as well as a demonstrated understanding of production within the design constraints of the Web (understand the browser differences, palette issues, file sizes).
Prefer more than seven years experience (at least two years online) and four-year degree a plus, but portfolio and attitude will determine selection.
