I live in Fort Myers, Florida and have started the building of a business as an artists rep. I presently hold a full time job workingfor the City of Sanibel, Florida as the Code Compliance Officer.
My wife and I moved to Fort Myers 5 1/2 years ago from Philadelphia, Pa. where I retired after 23 1/2 years service with the Philadelphia Police Department and District Attorneys Office. I plan on retiring in a few years and have started a new venture to fall back on upon retirement.
We have had a passion for visiting galleries for years and on a recent vacation to Park Cit, Utah, I started putting this new venture together. We travel every weekend from coast to coastr in Florida and enjoy meeting gallery owners as well as artists. I am assembling a portfolio of artists to represent in this venture. This is how I will conduct my business.
I will receive a sample of work from an artist along with photographs. I will select galleries that fit the works and show it to the gallery owners. The gallery will purchase the pieces, I will not put any work in on consignment. This will be an instant cash flow to the artist and the aretist and gallery will not be in contact with each other. I will sell the objects at the pre-determined price, determined by the artist. All works will be sent to my house which I will deliver to the gallery and collect payment upon delivery. I'll deposit the check and as soon as it clears sent the payment to the gallery. I will work on commission
only (20%) from the artist. If objects are priced right, they will sell, if they are overpriced the works will not sell.
I realize that individual arrangement will be made with each artist and that will be a big part of my working to make this project work. I expect my relationship to build and grow with each artist.
