Do we have obligations as artists to try to better the human condition? Should we make political and social statements with our art or stay aloof from it all? Is it in an artist's interest, for the growth of the soul, to be immersed in the problems of the culture or to maintain distance and create or recreate beauty? Can one function with attachment or does an artist need detachment to create more productively?
