Subject: Like I said Bebe, I am not a composer……….
……….and what I know about composing is sitting next to a composer on a mixer and synth.
As far as I know they all started with a layer of rhythm in 4/4 or something like that (tack, tack) and keep rolling it. I suppose that can be seen as the canvas. Then they usually started modulating with a synthesizer. Only after that music was mixed down they brought in the percussion and drums and tack-tack is taken out.
Newcomer seems to do it the other way around, get hooked to the drum beat and lost with the actual sound. That results usually in a constant beat throughout the whole piece. Perhaps you could try creating the sound first as the dominant factor and then mix in the drumbeat in a modulating way.
Just a thought.
