Recently, I bought a Joan Miro print as a gift for my sister in-law, it did indeed have the bogus COA come along with it but the lithograph was indeed a lithograph, I know the difference between an off set and a lithograph. Offsets are made up of dots when looked at closely, whereas lithographs are smooth, no printer dots.

I think a lot of collectors do prefer their identities hidden when reselling because of taxation purposes, so dealers feel pressured to come up with a story.

Also, I do not trust sotheby's at all, christies barely. The reason for this is because they authenticate artwork based on politics and that is a fact. If you buy from their auctions and bring a work for them to authenticate that is fake, they will say its real and sell it for you to keep business running smoothly with you.

Last year a Japanese man bought a fake Van Gogh for $33 million dollars and is now sueing them. Then when you sue them, they offer you a part of the company in hopes that you wont bad mouth them because than you would be hurting the value of your own stock. Auction houses are no better, there also to cheap to pay for professional art handlers, and the work is treated terrribly.

Just use your own intuition and expertise to authenticate a piece, thats what "experts" due anyhow, and at least you won't base it on politics.

Good Luck!!
