...but replies that initiate a branch in the conversation tree usually contain "segway" material that sets the lead foot down in the new territory while pushing off the old conversation with the foot that will soon follow. Inotherwords, one doesn't usually have to grow antennae or develop a psychic lobe in order to find the thread that leads from the main trunk out onto a side branch.

For example, I understood Lad's amusement immediately. When you mention "worms" in a post, suddenly all the ads that appear below it will be ads for worm farming. I swear, the day will soon dawn when the products on the shelves of the supermarkets will each be screaming at shoppers as they push their carts past, "Buy me! Buy ME!" This "topic sensitive" ad software is just the tip of the iceberg.

No harm done, and even as you suggested, since when do the replies stay firmly on topic? I like Halloween. It is colorful, artificial, decidedly an irreverent departure from the other conspicuously pretentious holidays, and devoted to the acquisition of sweets by extortion. It's an annual opportunity for the rest of the world to enjoy a brief taste of what it's like to be a Californian! Also, it's name sounds a bit like mine, almost as if people everywhere were whispering about me while I'm too high! Since I'm borderline crazy, this only makes the holiday more appealing.

The only holiday I like better is Thanksgiving, not at all because of what it symbolizes, but because of what happens on that day. Everyone gets together and prepares a sumptuous feast! No celebration could be more joyous than the one that involves us in the most intimate act that any human being can commit, eating! Some believe sex to be the most intimate act, but I say that it falls a deep notch short of taking chunks of the universe, inserting them into one's mouth and then masticating and swallowing them into one's inner being. Now, that's intimate!

Finally, before you judge me a necromancer, read the fine print and realize that all the artworks I have been posting here during the last couple weeks were created by me between 28 and 35 years ago! I'm way past the point of fooling around with Ouija Boards. Let others content themselves with wishing. I'm deep into willing.
