I was in the same situation last year. Was purchasing a piece of work, yet had a difficult time trying to find a site comprehensive enough to provide me with not only bios, but auction records, dealers, images, etc. After going to various sites and trying them out, I found AskART to be the most comprehensive art resource on the web...honestly, AskART has bio's on over 30,000 or so artists and auction records from roughly 30 auction houses from the dating back 13 years. AskART is a pretty great site so I've turned it on to my friends as well...not to mention it is easy to use.
