I love ebay!
It is a totally new market concept. Markets have been the same for about 3000 years. Ebay is a new and differnet concept that takes some getting used to. The marketer must adapt and change to survive. Art galleries are in big trouble: markups, gallery fees and expenses add a fortune to the final cost of paintings. These additonal costs are all set aside on ebay. The buyer deals directly with the artist and pays what the market determines is the best price on that day at that time.
Thousands of paintngs are selling every day on ebay. They are not sitting around unsold & unseen. Artists aren't moping around waiting for a gallery to save them; they are working very hard and selling.
To do it well the artist must think within the game (new kind of game)...and be oriented to the process. The artist can't be sloppy, rude, arrogant, ignorant, or dishonest. The market is about people and situations; it takes finesse.
If the ebay artist is overly concerned about money in the beginning; problems will be many. They will then go back to the basement and do more stinkin thinkin, alone.
eBay is the best thing ever invented:)
