From what I have read thus far no one knows for sure why Vincent suffered from such poor health. My own speculation concerns his expousure to toxins in the paints he used. As an artist I know I get paint all over myself. I try to get paint with the least amount of dangerous chemicals and heavy metals. Vincent would not have known the dangers of cadium, lead, and the like. The concentration of these compounds are probibly not nearly as regulated as today as well. Vincent was also known to really manipulate his paints adding materials to achieve the effects he desired.
I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this matter or thoughts on Vincents health in general.
