You are right, it's done all the time. Invoke "God", and people fall right in line, activates the faith button, shuts down the rational button, and a flock of sheep are born going willingly to the slaughter.
It's a shameful commentary on human nature, that one would use such buttons for wrong purposes, and that faith makes people so gullable.
