I gave it to some relatives that wanted to put it in their living room for the last 20 or 25 years. It feels better than some paintings I've sold because it fit their room well. When they passed away it was given back to me and I was actually worried driving with it in the back seat, I worried a car accident would wreck it after all these years.
I can understand now how an Aunt of mine used to do paintings of local scenes and give them to relatives and friends. She had a degree in Art, taught some college classes and her paintings sold for about $175 in the early 1970's ($175 then is probably like $750 nowadays with inflation) but she was a prolific painter and probably got more enjoyment from doing paintings of actual scenes and people and then giving them to someone for their walls. Below is one of her smaller paintings, it is a Willow tree behind my folks old cottage with the St.Clair river and United States in the background.
But alas, I am obsessed with doing strange art. When a relative hears I do art and asks for a painting I usually refuse because most my stuff is too strange for living room walls and like Dots once said 'it is painful to give or sell a painting that ends up in someones closet'.Thats like a cook spending 15 hours cooking and then someone puts the food in a closet instead of eating and enjoying it. I wonder if landscape painters get more satisfaction then other painters do?
Below is a painting by my Aunt Willa Webb. She passed away 10 or 15 years ago, alas, now that I'm a bit more mature I would like to discuss Art with her.
