I recently aquired a painting. It is done with a very "Van Gogh-ish" influence in style and brush stroke technique. The painting measures about 18"x24". The image is of a wilderness riverbend, like a trout stream with boulders, rushing through an autumnal forest, at peak color mixed with evergreens. rising from the tree tops in the background are softly rolling mountains/foothills done with the aforementioned "Van Gogh-ish" strokes.
Additionally the sky above is done with even more drama. Much like Van Goghs execution of roiling clouded skies. In this painting the colors used for the hills/mountains and the sky are particularly interesting and abstract. In thatI mean the mountains are done in greens and they give way to skies done in yellows with green tones, again there is very much drama and action in the roiling clouds.
The artists name is difficult to read. I can make out: "R Muhl..." with a umlaut over the "u". If I were to guess, the name may me Muhlhany or Muhl-something with a "g" or "y" at the end. My best interpretation looks like"
" Muhlhniy" , which phonetically doesn't seem to make much sense.
Any information would be most appreciated. Thank You.
