The title refers to concepts derived from fractal Geometry which deals with the natural phenomena where structures share characteristics for example the vein of a leaf grows similar to a flowing river cutting into a landscape. The body of works exhibited here form part of a collection, which plays with the sameness and difference that make up portraits. Originally done sporadically in sketchbooks taken from day to day observations of urban life. These works started as an experiment in which I tried to find a figrative relationship between found portraits and experssionistic memories of faces. The works have no beginning or end unto themselves but are a type of stream of consciousness the meanders between figurative abstract and expressionistic styles. Similar to the experience of traveling through the day and recording experiences from moment to moment. As well as traditional techniques of drawing and paintings I have also made use of masks to illustrate the ambiguous nature of revealing and hiding of personalities below the persona.
I find inspiration in many forms of media. Creating art for me is about constantlyreflecting on my place in the world, discovering how to distill and interpretmy interaction with what surrounds me and documenting that personal relationship.2001participated in an artist exchange program which involved a group exhibition with etchings of 12 South African artists and running workshops in Brest ,Jarsey and TullePart of group exhibition at Durbanville Cultural Society (Rust en Vrede)2002Exhibition of banners done for cultural festival in Brest ,Banners of Africa Took part in 4th Biennale of Pan-African Circle of Artists (Afrika Heritage)Exhibited in Barcelona for charities (UNISEF, Save the children ,) Took part in the national Thupelo workshop and exhibited at the Annex of the South African National Gallery2003Took part in the International Thupelo workshop and exhibited at the Annex of the South African National GalleryExhibited in Barcelona for charities (UNISEF, Save the children ,)Part of Group exhibition at Durbanville Cultural Society (Rust en Vrede)2004Participated in exhibition (Identity) at Fortis Circustheater Holland celebrating the opening of the Lion King Solo exhibition at the Association for Visual arts Cape Town Exhibited at the International Congress of Conservation (Bellville Civic Centre)Participated in opening group exhibition at the Nonjingi gallery- Cape TownParticipated in a group exhibition of wildlife at Cape gallery- Cape TownInvited to participate in the Wasanii International artists workshop in KenyaInvited to participate in Afrika Heritage 2004 Biennale - Lagos NigeriaInvited to participate in ABSOLUT MOMENT fundraising exhibition for the AVA artreach fundParticipating in a group exhibition at Durbanville Cultural Society (Rust en Vrede)2005Participated in exhibition - First Decade of Democracy at Art.b The Arts Association of BellvilleParticipated in The Cape Gallery Annual Wildlife ExhibitionParticipated in group Wildlife Exhibition at Khne Boekkooi Gallery in Port ElizabethInvited to participate in ABSOLUT Finale fundraising exhibition for the AVA artreach fundParticipated in group show at Walter Batiss Gallery in Somerset East2006Group show with Garth Erasmus at the Alliance Franaise du cap entiteled - Similiar similarities and strange attractorsGroup show at the KKNK festival in Oudshoorn - Branding MeP O S I + I V E HOPE Art Exhibition-Proceeds from this watershed event will go to the Tapologo Aids Hospice, which is performing an invaluable service in the fight against HIV/AIDS
