One of a series of photographs of the justly famous Degas bronze of a tiny ballerina in the National Gallery of Art in Washington taken in 2004. To me, at least, she appeared to be observing the observers, with her penetrating gaze, and clasped hands behind her back.

I am a 'New Media' Artist and Photographer living and working in Bath. Starting as a conventional media artist (waterclours, acrylics, pen and ink etc) in recent years I have moved completely into the field of digital and new media fine arts. My works are created from under paintings drawn in a variety of sources - ranging from traditional mediums (watercolours, acrylics, inks etc) - to photographs, and original digital images, all of which are recomposed and/or finished digitally. I am convinced that the web is the key to the democratic future of the visual arts. I get much positive critical feedback from buyers of my art, and visitors to my on-line art sites, which together receive millions of hits each year. I also use the virtual environment to share critiques and associate with an international group of fellow artists, collectors and art lovers. The subjects and styles I employ in my art and photography range ascoss the entire face of modernism and incorporate elements of conceptual art.I am a member of the 'For Now' group of artists in Bath. Profile Yes, Degas is one of the most under-rated of the modernist giants! And his bronzes are his masterworks, for me, the subtlty of jesture and relaxed and yet tense stances of these figures is quite astounding and in the National Gallery of Art in Washington she stands traped in her perspex boxes, as in...
Profile If Degas did nothing but paint, it would have been enough. And if he'd done nothing but sculpt, it would have been enough. And if he was only his pastel work, it would have been enough. Another mind-boggling under-rated visual artist, IMO. Lee
